Red Note Youth Orchestra is a member of ARS Musica, A Non-profit Charitable Organization operating exclusively for Educational and Charitable Purposes.

Musicians

All prospective musicians are required to complete and mail an application for each concert season. A non-refundable $50 deposit is required to process your application.

    MICHAEL HEMSWORTH

    (EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR)

    Michael Hemsworth serves as the executive director in addition to being the founder of NewSongs Music School of On a Different Note music programs for special needs students in Elk Grove.

    Michael holds a music degree from University of CA, Davis as well as a Masters in Business Administration.  He enjoys raising a family of three children in the community and helping provide students with a well-rounded and creative education.  He also enjoys writing for children, playing the piano, and helping expose children to styles of music they may never have explored before.

    MARCIA SCHUMACHER

    (ARTISTIC DIRECTOR)

    Marcia Schumacher graduated from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California with a Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy in December 1979.  She completed her music therapy internship in southern California, with two special education credentials between 1984-1988 through CSU Northridge, Ca.

    As both an educator and music therapist, she has experience working with children and adults with a range of disabilities. She has also completed training in Neurologic Music Therapy through the Robert F. Unkefer Academy for Neurologic Music Therapy.  Since retiring from full time teaching in 2017, Marcia has been continuing with teaching after school violin and cello lessons, as well as doing part time music therapy with Music to Grow on Music Therapy Services.  She is currently the musical director for the Red Note Youth Orchestra in Elk Grove.
